Most Interesting Character in "A Good Man is Hard to Find"
[The most interesting character in the story, "A Good Man is Hard to Find" is Misfit. The way he talks, specifically with the grandmother makes him seem sane and capable of communicating.] Here is an example "'I know you're a good man. You don't look a bit like you have common blood. I know you must come from nice people.' 'Yes mam,' he said, 'finest people in the world.' When he smiled he showed a row of strong white teeth. 'God never made a finer woman than my mother and my daddy's heart was pure gold.'" This is just one of the many conversations he has with the grandmother, and in it he shows he recognizes his parents were good people. Yet, in the story he is portrayed as an insane murderer, which is proved in the story when he commands his two friends to go and kill the family and then he kills the grandmother. The end of the story when he kills the grandmother is very interesting. "'Why you're one of my babies, you're one of my own children!' She reached out and touched him on the shoulder. The Misfit sprang back as if a snake had bitten him and shot her three times through the chest." Is the Misfit really her child? That alone would make him the most interesting character, but he stands out even more with everything else going on with him. That is why I believe the Misfit is the most interesting character in the story.
